HENRY WAKABAYASHI, P.Eng., C.M., O.B.C.

Henry Wakabayashi is Chairman and Director of Pacific Liaicon and Associates Inc., which he established in 1970 to provide project management services to private industrial projects, primarily in the pulp and paper industry, and, later, to major public sector projects. Mr. Wakabayashi has been responsible for conceiving and leading the development, total project management and implementation of some of British Columbia's most important public infrastructure projects, including the North East Coal Development, the first phase of Vancouver's SkyTrain and the Vancouver International Airport Expansion Projects. He has been directly involved in over $12 billion of project work. Mr. Wakabayashi is highly regarded within the business community for his track record of completing projects to high quality standards, on budget and on time.

As Senior Advisor of Business Development in the SNC-Lavalin Transportation Division since 2001, Mr. Wakabayashi is responsible for marketing Pacific Liaicon's expertise in all aspects of infrastructure projects. In 2001/2002, he was instrumental in successfully negotiating a 65-year concession with Malta International Airport. He also provides senior advisory services or Owner's Representative services to Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project Ltd., BC Ferry Services Inc., BC Transit and BC Hydro.

Throughout his busy career, Mr. Wakabayashi has committed to giving back to the community. He has been actively involved in a number of non-profit undertakings including the Momiji Garden at Hastings Park, Vancouver, the National Nikkei Heritage Centre in Burnaby, and fundraising programs or events, such as the SNC-Lavalin/Pacific Liaicon annual charity golf tournament.

In recognition of his professional achievements and contributions to the province, Mr. Wakabayashi was awarded the Order of British Columbia in 2000. In 2008, Mr. Wakabayashi was appointed to the Order of Canada for "his contributions, as a civil and industrial engineer, to significant infrastructure projects in the Vancouver area, and for fostering increased cultural exchanges between Canada and Japan ."
